News More cases, more vaccination clinics, eligibility now 50 years old and up SHARE ON: Bob McIntyre, staff Sunday, May. 2nd, 2021 (pexels.com) Eleven more COVID-19 cases and another daycare centre outbreak were reported on Sunday by the Porcupine Health Unit. All eleven cases are in Timmins, as is the daycare centre outbreak. It’s at the YMCA on Poplar Avenue and consists of four confirmed cases to date. The eleven Sunday cases bring the weekend total to 15 and the total since the start of the pandemic of 642. Meanwhile, the health unit has extended vaccination eligibility to anyone 50 or older. In addition, essential workers who cannot work from home can book appointments. The first group of essential workers who cannot work from home include: Elementary/ secondary school workers (e.g. teachers, janitors, school bus drivers, administrative staff); Workers responding to critical events (e.g. children’s aid society workers, emergency management, police, fire, special constables); Enforcement, inspection and compliance roles (e.g. by-law enforcement, building inspectors, food inspectors, animal welfare inspectors, labour inspectors); Individuals working in childcare as follows: All licensees, employees and students on an educational placement who interact directly with children in licensed childcare centres and in authorized recreation and skill building programs. Licensed home child care and in-home service providers, employees of a home child care agency and students on an educational placement. Foster care agency workers; Food manufacturing and distribution workers; Agriculture and farm workers; Funeral, crematorium and cemetery workers.
