The provincial government is putting$8-million more into mine rescue programs and training.
Announcing details of that provision of the recent Ontario budget, labour minister Monte McNaughton says it will strengthen rescue capacity and address gaps in the current program.
Mine rescue was established in Ontario following the 1929 fire at the Hollinger Mine in Timmins that killed 39 miners.
Most of the province’s 40 active mining operations are in the north.
