Shovels in the ground, lane reduction Monday on Algonquin Blvd.

Construction activity and a lane reduction are planned for Monday on Algonquin Blvd. near the bridge.

Public works manager Ken Krcel says some preliminary work and housekeeping issues are already being done.

“The plan right now is to reduce Algonquin down to a lane in each direction effective Monday and start seeing a shovel in the ground,” he tells My Timmins Now Dot Com.

The lane reduction will start at the bridge and extend for now to somewhere between Fogg Ave. and Thériault Blvd.

“It will be more of a congestion issue, not a road closure at this point in time,” Krcel adds. “But we’re going to be asking people to slow down, take their time and as always, be patient and use alternate routes if you need to get somewhere quickly.”

The city has set up an alert system on its website to keep you up to date on the effects of the road project.
