The Temiskaming OPP has found the body of a missing man in Spring Lake. Christain Gareau, from Stouffville, was out fishing with three others last week.
Their canoe capsized on Wednesday evening. The other three got back to shore. The OPP’s Underwater Search and Recovery Team found the 23 year olds body on Thursday at around 5:45 PM, just under 24 hours from when the boat tipped over. Although it isn’t clear how the boat capsized, foul play isn’t suspected. A post mortem has been scheduled.
Nobody in the canoe was wearing a lifejacket when it went under, which has prompted a warning from the OPP.
“If you unexpectedly find yourself in the water, conditions such as wind, waves, temperature and more can impede your ability to locate and fasten a PFD. Never underestimate the protection a floatation device can afford you.”
