OPG warns of dam safety

Victoria Day weekend is the unofficial start to summer, and OPG wants to make it a safe one. They say to keep clear of all hydroelectric stations and dams, because the water around them can quickly turn dangerous without warning. The water levels can rise quickly, and there can be a strong undertow,

“Many hydroelectric facilities are remotely controlled to generate electricity as needed. This causes frequent and rapid changes in the water flow and levels, often creating strong undertows, turbulence and sudden, powerful surges of water moving downstream in what was once calm looking surface water.” Says Ontario Power Generation.

OPG says to obey all signs, fences, and buoys.
