Council hears a pitch to build three apartment buildings

The old Lionel Gauthier School could be one of three new apartment buildings in Timmins. The school would be re-purposed into a 28 unit building, with two others being constructed on the same land. A total of 100 apartments would be built between the three buildings.

Councillor Bamford says although we need more housing in the city, his first reaction to the pitch is to be cautious. He says we need to be careful before immediately beginning to reduce standards for parking and landscaping.

He says those standards were put in place after a lot of review, for the protection of residents and neighbours.

Councillor Doody echoed those comments, saying his biggest concern is losing parking in the area. Council requested more information on the site plan before making any decisions.
