More phone scams to watch out for

Red flags are being raised as another round of phone scams are happening. Timmins-James Bay MP Charlie Angus says he has heard that residents are getting calls saying they owe money on their income taxes.

He says this is a scam. If you get a threat that your wages will be cut until you pay, don’t believe them. Angus says call police, and never give out financial information over the phone.

People are being threatened that they will have their pay garnished unless they pay up. Don’t do anything. Never give financial information over the phone.”

Angus says police services are experts at tracking down these scammers.

You should call the Anti-Fraud centre. Police deal with this all the time and need to know when something is happening that is not legit.
