TSO concert features local dancers performing The Nutcracker

It takes more than a pandemic to keep the Timmins Symphony Orchestra from celebrating Christmas in a musical way.

This Saturday at 8:00pm, it presents its virtual concert called “When You Believe”.

Orchestra director Josh Wood says the quartet that joined the TSO last Christmas – the Hogtown Brass – has contributed tunes to the program.  You can also expect to hear the TSO Chorus.

“And we’re also partnering with several local dance schools,” he notes. “So they are going to be performing several movements of The Nutcracker alongside the orchestra.”

Wood says the orchestra really wanted to do this, as a way to get young dancers going again and having fun.

“You know, the TSO we really see ourselves as really a community arts hub, where we not only are playing for ourselves, but we’re trying to tap into other arts groups in the community and collaborate and work together. This will have a real Timmins flavour to it.”

The concert will stream simultaneously on the orchestra’s Facebook page and Youtube channel.
