Stan Fowler Santa Claus Fund expects to have 450 families to feed this year

Don’t look now, but tomorrow’s already December 1st. And Thursday is the annual “Feeding Families Radiothon” for the Stan Fowler Santa Claus Fund.

We’ll be on the air at Moose 93.1 from 6:00am to 6:00pm, urging you to call in with whatever size cash pledge you can make.

Members of the Schumacher Lions Club will be on the phones taking those pledges.

Stan Fowler Fund chairman John McCauley says indications are that there will be more families who need grocery vouchers than last year.

“And it’s understandable with this Covid thing going on,” he comment. Lots of families have either lost their jobs or had their hours cut. We’re going to help as many as we can.”

“Last year, I believe it was around 385 families. This year we’re thinking closer to 450 that’s probably doing to need some assistance. So we’ll do our best to help them out.”

The fundraising target is $50,000.  McCauley says that’s a long hill, but the people of Timmins have supported the Stan Fowler Fund so well over the last 70-plus years, he’s confident.
