Discover Policing, with police week

The Timmins Police are opening their doors as part of next week’s Police Week. The theme this year is Discover Policing, to try and get more people interested in a career with law enforcement. The events kick off on Monday with tours of police headquarters.

Throughout the week there will be information sessions, and the winner of the Chief for a Day contest will be named.  You can also ask questions on Twitter using the hashtag #PoliceWeekTimmins.

Monday May 11:

Guided tours of Timmins Police Service: The Timmins Police Service invites local public/community groups to learn more about policing in our community by booking a tour of TPS headquarters. The public will have the chance to learn about different elements of policing and get a look ‘behind the scenes.’ Those wishing to book a tour are asked to contact 705-264-1201 ext 8102.

Tuesday May 12:

“Discover Policing” education sessions: The Timmins Police Service will host a day-long education session to provide more information to local high school students about entering the policing profession. Students to be selected by their teachers.

Thursday, May 14, 2015 & Friday, May 15, 2015, 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m:

“Discover Policing” booth at Timmins Square: The Timmins Police Service will be on display at the Timmins Square to answer questions and provide information to the public about policing. Displays will include information about the Emergency Response Team, Forensic Identification Unit, Community Policing, co-operative education

Friday May 15:

Chief for a Day visits TPS: The student chosen for this year’s Chief for a Day contest will visit the Timmins Police Service. The day will include a ‘swearing in’ ceremony with the media, a tour of the police station, and lunch with the Chief and Deputy Chief.
