Truck snags wires, police issue reminder to drivers of log and other large trucks

An incident this week involving a log truck on Wende Avenue has Timmins Police reminding drivers of big trucks of their responsibilities.

On Tuesday, a truck pulled phone and cable TV wires right off six houses, when its too-high load snagged them.

You might be surprised to learn from police communications coordinator Marc Depatie that Wende is a truck route.

“Here again, load dimensions in terms of height and weight are always applicable,” Depatie remarks.  “So these are avoidable instances of inconvenience to homeowners.”

Penalties for infractions are strict, and recorded to what’s called the Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registered Number.

“Any offences listed against that particular licence can call the operator’s ability to maintain a business in Ontario into question,” says Depatie, and that can jeopardize the trucker’s livelihood.
