Cory Robin appointed to Timmins Council

By unanimous decision of Timmins City Council, Cory Robin has been appointed to fill the Ward 5 seat left vacant by Noella Rinaldo.

It took a recount in 2018 to confirm that Andrew Marks had beaten Robin by two votes for the fourth council seat in the ward that encompasses the former Town of Timmins.

Marks says he fully supports the appointment.  He qualifies that by saying if there were six or eight months left in the term, he would have preferred someone more seasoned than the rookie Robin, to add to council’s knowledge.

“With two years, over two years in our mandate left, it’s the proper way to go for Ward 5,” he told council.  “It’s the democratic approach and it’s a cost effective approach as well, versus the byelection.”

Mayor George Pirie approves of the move. “I have had an opportunity to talk to Mr. Robin and he’s ready and enthusiastic and willing to step in the role and I would endorse that he be appointed.”

City clerk Steph Palmateer says that Robin will be sworn in as soon as the next regular council meeting set for October 13th.
