Bear activity closes part of Terry Fox Trail

UPDATE AUG. 28: Bear has been live trapped by MNRF, barricades removed by city.

UPDATED WITH DETAILS FROM CITY OF TIMMINS:

It is one aggressive bear that has prompted the closure of the Terry Fox Trail, between Dalton Road and Middleton Avenue.

That detail is provided by the city’s parks and rec manager, Glenn Thurston.

“The MNR called, said that they have an aggressive bear on the trail,” he tells My Timmins Now Dot Com. “That’s where they suspect the bear is hanging out. If required, we will extend the closure area.”

The closure is expected to last a couple weeks.

In China, it’s the Year of the Rat.  In Timmins, it’s probably the Year of the Bear, and that’s affecting at least one walking trail in the city.

The Terry Fox Trail has been closed  between Dalton Rd. and Middleton Ave., due to bear activity.  The city says it will likely stay closed for two weeks.
