Last day to vote for the Worst Road in Ontario

The CAA Worst Roads contest ends at midnight, and Mayor Black is still encouraging everyone to vote for Algonquin.

This week’s water main break drove the point home that the road needs a lot of work. Black says winning the contest could bring some much needed attention to the highway.

“Usually the winners of that contest get a lot of attention at the provincial level, and the municipal level” says Black. “Obviously we feel our Connecting Link is right up there with some of the others that are being discussed.

“We have a tough time getting our voice at Queen’s Park heard up here in the North, and getting some of those provincial dollars to come our way when it comes to projects like this.

In the meantime, council has approved a contract with AECOM to do a study on the road, to see what needs to be done, in a project that could cost upwards of $70M.

“The more people we can get to vote, the more chances we are that our road will be at the top of the list.”
