The NDP is raising red flags over a Liberal government idea gone wrong.

SAMS is a computer program that should be controlling welfare in Ontario. However it has been riddled in controversy because it has never worked the way it should.

Monique Taylor, the NDP Critic for social services, says the government needs to take responsibility.

“Since November, families have been underpaid,” says Taylor. “Cheques have been too late to pay the rent. Staff are overwhelmed and exhausted.”

There have been protests against the program across Ontario, including in Timmins.

Some families were getting no payments at all, some were getting $5, and others were assigned to $20M in overpayments.
