Mattagami Committee keeping an eye on spring flooding

Spring melt is quickly approaching, and a local committee is keeping their eye on the water levels.

The Upper Mattagami Water Management Committee met last week to review watershed conditions, and the potential for flooding.

Chair of the board, Mayor Steve Black, says although the water levels are slightly higher than normal, flooding is hard to predict.

He says if there is flooding, and to what degree, will depend on how quickly the snow melts, and how fast the rainy season hits.

The Mattagami Region Conservation Authority is having an open house on Wednesday, where panelists will be taking questions about the spring melt, and river forecasting.
