First responders pay tribute to medical workers at TADH with a parade

Reported by Shane Button

One branch of the people who are keeping us safe during COVID-19 staged a tribute to another branch Thursday afternoon.

The tribute to staff at Timmins and District Hospital featured 15 emergency vehicles with sirens blaring, from Timmins Police and Fire, EMS and Nishnawbe Aski Police pulling up to the front of the hospital.

Timmins Police communications coordinator Marc Depatie says it recognizes the pressure those workers are under during these trying times.

“It’s just a gesture of gratitude from emergency services front line, to the medical staffers who are keeping us safe and healthy in the community of Timmins and surrounding area,” Depatie comments. “We’re always thankful to have the public support in terms of front line, but we sometimes fail to acknowledge the back stop, that being the medical community.”

Adding to the parade atmosphere was Timmins Pipe Band leader Tom Luke and his bagpipes.

Hospital staff and patients showed their own appreciation, applauding the first responders’ tribute.
