Kidd and Compass team up to brew sanitizer

Glencore’s Kidd Operations have partnered with Compass Brewing to produce hand sanitizer. It will go to Kidd workers first. What’s left will go to the city for front line workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Compass co-owner Kevin Patriquin says beer is still being brewed.  The sanitizer is made in empty kegs… not the big vats.

“We’re still selling beer by the can for takeout,” he remarks.  “None of our operations have really been affected so far.”

Patriquin says one ingredient in the sanitizer is glycerin, to prevent the alcohol in it from drying out your skin.

Kidd general manager Mark Furlotte say once the company takes what it needs, the rest will go to people working on the front lines during the coronavirus pandemic.

“So we will distribute that to the city and they will distribute within their network of requirements,” he outlines.

Glencore has also donated $10,000 to the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation.

“We’re also in the process now of speaking with some other not-for-profits,” says Furlotte, “and we have some announcements that should be coming in the upcoming weeks on other financial commitments.”

The initial financial commitment to the hand sanitizer is about $50,000.
