The 39th case of COVID-19 in our region is a woman in her 90s who lives at the Spruce Hill Lodge retirement home in South Porcupine.
Mayor George Pirie knows her family.
“Having grown up with that family, I can tell you if there’s ever one individual in their 90s that will survive this, it is your mother and grandmother,” Pirie says. “She has a spine of steel and a faith that would rival Mother Teresa.”

The woman is the first resident of a seniors’ home in this area to test positive.
Medical officer of health Dr. Lianne Catton says she is in isolation at Spruce Hill and all precautions are being taken to prevent it from spreading to others there.
