Mayor’s Health Table – Thurs., April 9

Every day at noon for the duration of the COVID-19 emergency, a group led by Mayor George Pirie called the Timmins Health Table will issue an update.  Here are details from today’s update.

STAY HOME FOR EASTER

The annual impulse at Easter is to throw the kids into the car and go visit relatives.

However, Timmins Mayor George Pirie is reiterating the advice of his Sudbury counterpart, Brian Bigger, not to travel to his city.

“It’s the same message across the North,” says Pirie.  “Stay here.  Stay in your own town.  You don’t know what you’re bringing with you and no likes an unexpected visitor.”

It applies the other way, too.  You don’t know what you might bring home with you.

DON’T FLUSH DISINFECTING WIPES

City hall’s chief administrative officer had a plea during today’s report of the Mayor’s Health Table… on behalf of the waterworks and sanitation group. Dave Landers says don’t flush disinfectant wipes down the toilet.

“The city manta is ‘no wipes in the pipes’,” Landers quotes.  “They do gum up the system, they jam up the pumps, so while everyone’s taking extra precautions to wipe down and stay safe, all of those things should go in bags into the garbage.”
