Trash talk that isn’t funny in the COVID-19 era; it could save lives

No stone — or piece of garbage – is being unturned in the quest to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

City of Timmins environmental services manager Scott Tam says that extends to garbage and recycling, to protect everyone.

“People that are exposed to it, workers down the line, anybody else within their homes and whatnot too,” Tam states.

He has a list of guidelines for you to follow.

“Place used tissues and napkins in a waste bag before placing it in your waste cart.  Bag all your waste,” he begins.  “Don’t place waste loosely in waste containers.  If you’re sick, place items that have come in contact with your mouth, nose, eyes into the waste bag before placing in in your waste cart.”

Tam exercises that the guidelines apply to recyclables, as well as to garbage.

“We just want to mitigate any potential exposure or any spreading of any type of disease, especially through these trying times right now.”
