Kin plan sunrise ceremony outside City Hall

Don’t be surprised to see a group of people outside Timmins City Hall while you’re driving to work Thursday morning.

The local Kinsmen and Kinette clubs will be marking the one-hundredth anniversary of their organization with a sunrise flag raising ceremony at 7:30am.

Local chiropractor Erin Thomson is past national president of Kin Canada.  She says similar ceremonies are planned from the east coast to the west coast.

There are no clubs in the far north, but there are members in Nunavut.

“One gentleman will be raising the Kin flag at sunrise at Meadowbrook Mine, which is an Agnico-Eagle mine, at sunrise there,” says Thomson.

That gentleman is from Timmins.

“He’s a member of the Timmins Kinsmen. His name is Pete Henry.”

“Now sunrise there is quite a bit later than sunrise in Timmins, so that flag is going to be raised at about 10:30am,” Thomson notes.

Kin Canada says it has raised over $1-billion dollars for Canadian communities over its first one-hundred years.
