Watch for a lower speed limit on certain streets in South Porcupine, on the initiative of the city councillor for that area, Mickey Auger.
“I’d like to bring the speed limit on Main Street in South Porcupine between Powell and Essa and also from Main to Crawford on Broadway,” he told this week’s regular council meeting.
He worries about kids going to Roland Michener, Bertha Shaw and St. Joseph schools.
“They (cars) drive up Main Street like it’s a raceway, and I had complaints. So I’d like to see it dropped down to 40 so we can have a little bit of control on Main Street and the safety of our kids going to school.”
The limit on those streets is currently 50 kilometres an hour.
