Campbell votes against city budget

There was one dissenting voice when the council vote on the 2020 Timmins budget took place.

Ward 3 councillor Joe Campbell says it’s not because it’s a bad budget.  It’s because administration didn’t put forward five items he asked to be considered during budget deliberations.

“To me, I would be abrogating my responsibility and my authority to put something in the budget,” he tells My Timmins Now Dot Com.  “And that’s the issue here.”

Campbell says that by allowing that and passing the budget anyway, council is giving up its authority to tell administration that those items should have been considered.

“Now whether it gets in there as a final item or not, that’s again up to the majority.  And some of these probably would have bot voted down and that’s fine.  That’s why I’m not getting specific with them.  But they still required due consideration and they didn’t get that.”
