Frank Mahovlich and Bill Barilko now have company in the rafters of the McIntyre Arena.
At Saturday’s Timmins Rock game, a banner honouring Lou Battochio was dedicated in front of Battochio’s widow Cecile, their sons and grandsons.
It recognizes his contributions to minor hockey and the community of Schumacher for 70 years.
Battochio’s successor as city councillor for Schumacher, Joe Campbell, addressed the crowd: “Lou made the comment one day ‘I have deep roots here in Schumacher and got to do all things I love, including hockey, working with kids and serving the community. I’m a lucky guy.
“Schumacher’s Mr. Hockey, Lou Battochio, who earned his rightful place in the rafters of this storied building and all the kids who cam through the system down through the years, they were the real lucky ones.”
Lou Battochio died in November, 2018 at the age of 91.
