Walk like an Egyptian to latest museum exhibit

You can go back in time about 6,000 years at the latest exhibit at the Timmins Museum.

“Egypt: Gift of the Nile” is a travelling exhibit from the Royal Ontario Museum.  Director-curator Karen Bachmann says it’s a slice of life back then.

“So you’ll find a lot about the building of large monuments, there’s things on religion, there’s a lot of things on family life, education, adornment because there’s a whole section on Egyptian makeup of all things,” she notes.

The show includes the reproduction of a sarcophagus… along with information on the mummy that was inside the original.

“There are original pieces within the show and then there are some reproductions of more sensitive materials,” Bachmann explains.  “So it’s kind of fun to see some of the really, really old pieces, some really old linens, some really old tools and equipment and then a lot of little votive gods and goddesses.”

The museum is open every day of the week.  There is never an admission fee.  “Egypt: Gift of the Nile” also features special kids’ programming on weekends.
