Winter fun at Hollinger Park on Saturday

The fledgling Timmins Community Park Association promised events the third Saturday of every month. So its next one is this Saturday at Hollinger Park.

“Fingers crossed that the skating path will be open,” says TCPA president Mark Rogers.

He’s awaiting word from City Hall on whether that new skateway through the park will be ready.  Tens of thousands of litres of water were poured on it last week, and then we had a thaw at the end of the week.  For the rest of this week, however, the highest predicted temperature is minus-13.

“That is good news for ice making,” Rogers comments.  “Once we get word, if we get word, whether the path will be open, we’re just all hoping it will be.”

Even without the skate path, there are several free and fun activities.

“We’ve built a big slide at the park for kids to come and slide, either using their own toboggans or we have crazy carpets there for people to use,” Rogers outlines.  “We’ll be having a marshmallow roast and we’ll be having ice curling.  That’s our featured event.”
