Tax cut ‘not enough… (but) a step in the right direction’: Chamber president

With the new year came lower provincial taxes for small Ontario businesses.

Timmins Chamber of Commerce president Val Venneri says people will always say it’s not enough.  He sees it as a step in the right direction, and calls small businesses the backbone of any community.

“Any time that they can save some money, you know, they can probably reinvest it in their businesses and help out the economy that way,” he remarks.  “It’s always a good thing when taxes are reduced.”

The provincial government says the average small business will save $1,500 this year, because of the cut.

“It’s never enough,” Venneri comments.  “But it’s a starting point, so from there we can keep on advocating for better legislation that’s going to help businesses grow, attract investment in the community and hopefully with that, it’ll be (an) increased tax base but lower taxes.”
