Elderly driver charged, police say public safety issue involved

A 93-year-old man was charged by Timmins Police this week, after driving his car into two school buses.

Communications coordinator Marc Depatie says the force is not oblivious to comments that investigators had the discretion not to charge the driver.

“We do take that into consideration but there’s also a public safety component here that has to be addressed,” he states.

“Based on investigation, the driver of the passenger vehicle failed to stop at a red light and collided in succession with not only one, but two school buses and then came to rest in a snowbank adjacent to the roadway.”

No one on the buses was hurt.
