Big vote on Polar Bear Habitat future Tuesday night

The council chamber at Cochrane Town Hall is bound to be packed Tuesday night and the livestream of the regular meeting likely the most-watched ever.  Council is expected to make a decision on the future of the Polar Bear Habitat.

Mayor Denis Clement says there’s been an open and honest dialogue since council announced last month that it can’t afford to finance the facility anymore.

“Every councillor has access to all the letters and all the comments and all the suggestions and we’ll certainly have a resolution one way or another on the table and we’ll vote on it,” he remarks.

The mayor won’t show his own cards or predict the outcome.

“I feel good.  I think we’ve had a very open and honest dialogue amongst the taxpayers,” Clement comments.  “There’s certainly a lot of emotion.  There’s a silent majority that we haven’t heard too much from, but we’ll take all that under consideration and hopefully we can move forward.”

The council meeting begins at 6:00pm.
