Training sessions will be announced over the next couple months, for anyone wanting to volunteer filling out income tax returns.

Every year, the Canada Revenue Agency supports local organizations that offer free tax clinics.  Senior communications advisor Paul Murphy says the service is for simple returns of people on modest incomes.

“Ballpark around $35,000 for a single person, $50,000 for a family of three,” he notes. “ There’s suggested levels and you can talk to the community organizations to make sure that you fit their criteria.”

Murphy elaborates what is meant by “simple return”.

“So you’re a wage earner or pensioner or (collect) social assistance.  You don’t have complex capital gains or those types of situations.”
