Dragons Den invests in a Cochrane man

Born and raised in Cochrane, Jamie Draves has made his way into the Dragons Den. The entrepreneur is looking to start a Quinoa processing plant. What has been called a superfood, there is no plant to clean and process the seed in Ontario. Jamie Draves he wants to start one in the North.

He says the seed is conducive to Northern Ontario. There is still work that needs to be done to improve it, but one crop he planted in the Matheson area showed the highest amount of quality in the nutrients and protein that he has seen.

Draves was successful on Dragons Den. The episode aired last week, and he made a deal with Vikram Vij to get the plant started. Now, he is waiting on more funding from the government. If that goes through, he plans to start the plant in Cochrane as early as this summer.

Draves says his heart is in the north, and he hopes to be up and running for this years crop.

Draves ended up getting an investment of $200, 000 for 20% of his company from Vikram. This was more than his original ask, which was $150, 000 for 20%.
