High schoolers to demand action on climate change to save their planet

Inspired by Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg, students from three of the four high schools in Timmins are joining a global “Fridays for Future” strike this Friday.

Grade 11 student Jessica Kim from Ecole Secondaire Catholique Thériault is coordinating the local observance with TH&VS and O’Gorman High School.

“At 11:30, students are going to walk out of school and meet at the Sportsplex,” she outlines.  “And we’re going to walk in front of (MPP) Gilles Bisson and (MP) Charlie Angus’s office and we’re going to end up at City Hall, where there will be speeches.”

Kim says global warming is killing the planet her generation is inheriting.

“It’s causing a lot of animals to die, it is causing, like, the air pollution is lowering our life expectancy.”

Kim invites anyone concerned about the environment to join the march.
