Students who made it in to several north end Timmins schools Thursday despite bus cancellations were subjected to a “hold and secure” over the noon hour.
City police initiated it, after getting two calls about a man on a bicycle carrying a rifle.
Communications coordinator Marc Depatie notes that it’s not illegal to safely and responsibly transport a firearm.
He adds: “There is a reasonable expectation that individuals doing so engage in such transportation with discretion, realizing that a public display of a firearm is likely to inspire alarm for the general public.”
Officers searched the area, but did not find anyone matching the description.
