News Bourgoin’s highway bill defeated in legislature SHARE ON: Bob McIntyre, staff Thursday, Nov. 7th, 2019 The result of the vote on The Making Northern Ontario Highways Safer Act is announced in the Ontario legislature. (Legislature of Ontario) Defeat for Mushkegowuk-James Bay MPP Guy Bourgoin’s private member’s bill to improve winter highway maintenance in the north. It lost a vote in the legislature on Thursday, 59 to 38. In a statement following the legislature vote, Bourgoin blasts the Ford Conservatives, saying they “shamelessly put a price on the lives of people that tragically die and get injured on Northern Ontario highways every winter.” He also notes that the three northern cabinet ministers – Vic Fedeli, Ross Romano and Greg Rickford skipped the vote. He accuses them of preferring to tow Ford’s line, rather than standing up to protect families in the north.
