Rock on the River 2020 at Hollinger Park? Not so fast

Although Rocktoberfest is on hiatus this year, the Timmins Festivals and Events Committee is planning Rock on the River 2020 next summer – its fifth anniversary.

With construction shutting down Algonquin Boulevard between Theriault and the Mattagami bridge, chairman John Olaveson says TFEC has to consider moving it for at least one year.

“I have a meeting with the City of Timmins at the end of this month, just to discuss some things like the Hollinger,” he says, but he’s hesitant about the move, while TFEC is unable to sell-out Participark at five-thousand people.

“Attendance is growing but the Hollinger Park is a very big space, and I’m not sure if I’m 100% sold on it, because a lot of people can just stand outside the Hollinger and reap the benefits of a free concert and that would hurt us, right?”

Negotiations are already underway with some bands to come and perform at Rock on the River.
