Food on the menu at candidates’ Q&A

Food will be the topic at a free dinner and Q&A session with Timmins-James Bay federal election candidates on Monday night at the Lord’s Kitchen.

“We are very fortunate in Timmins with our event.  Every one of our local candidates will be in attendance.”

That’s Jennifer Vachon, executive director of the Anti-Hunger Coalition Timmins.  It’s partnering with the Porcupine Health Unit and the Cochrane District Social Planning Council for “Eat, Think, Vote” – the local component of a cross-Canada effort.

“Food is of course ann important issue to absolutely everyone,” she remarks,  “and we think that it’s really important that folks in our community have an understanding of what our candidates plan on doing about food in our area.”

The meal and encounter with the candidates is open to anyone.

“It’ll be a mix of questions that the organizers have… but we will be largely focusing on questions that the audience has.”

Vachon says the meal will be served at 5:30pm, followed at 6:00pm by a 90-minute question period.
