Thanksgiving appeal aims for $11,000 for South Porcupine Food Bank

The South Porcupine Food Bank has embarked on its annual Thanksgiving appeal.

Non-perishable food items are always welcome, but treasurer and purchasing agent Peter Davis says the appeal is mostly for cash to buy meat and other perishables.  The target is $11,000.

“And that will be the equivalent of two months of our operating costs for us,” Davis points out.   “We’ve been operating close to $5,500 per month, and that will give us about two months worth.”

Davis says you can donate by dropping into the food bank when it’s open, online or by mail.

“If they are going to send a cheque, it’s probably easiest if they do mail it to our address and we’ll promptly send you a tax receipt.”

If you plan to donate food,  Davis suggests that since it’s Thanksgiving, you could include a can of cranberry sauce or pumpkin.

Donate online at https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/35850 . The food bank pays an administration charge for that service, so if you want to mail a cheque, send it to South Porcupine Food Bank, 32 Main St., South Porcupine ON P0N 1H0.  In either case, you will be issued a receipt for income tax purposes.
