Paramedics and community partners save kids’ brains

Cochrane District EMS paramedics don’t want to have to treat kids with head injuries from bike accidents.  That’s why they partner up every summer with McDonald’s and Canadian Tire for “Brain Save”.

EMS Commander Derek Cremin says medics will stop kids under 16 who are wearing helmets while riding their bikes.

“They’re given a free ice cream cone from McDonald’s and then their name is entered into a draw for a pedal bike donated by Canadian Tire,” he adds.

The medics also check the helmets for safety.

“This wouldn’t be successful without our community partners,” claims Cremin, “and the hard working paramedics.  This was driven by our paramedics.”

This year’s bike winner is Calem Burns.
