Rock hockey features first home exhibition game tonight

It’s a big night at the Mac.

The Timmins Rock Junior A hockey team plays its first home exhibition game of the year against the Junior B Pelham Panthers, co-owned by Iroquois Falls hockey product Tim Toffolo.

Rock GM Kevin Peever is also an Iroquois Falls hockey product.  He notes that people who have watched the Timmins team in practice are impressed with the speed, puck possession, and activation.

“It’s something that Coach Beer wants from the players and you practice how you play, so that’s why those high-intensity practices are happening,” says Peever. “Even under Coach (Paul) Gagné, he played in Europe for many years and that was something that he brought over.  And with Coach (Corey) Beer coming in – in his third season now – that’s a big component of his philosophy, and it’s very evident in the games that fans come and watch.”

Tonight’s first face-off should happen at about 7:00pm.

The Rock beat the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 4-1 in their first exhibition game a week ago.
