Library adds four board games and a weekly game night

The main branch of the Timmins Public Library has expanded its inventory of in-house board games… adding four new ones.

Assistant library director Erin Auger lists them off: “Catan, Clue, Exploding Kittens and Ticket to Ride.”

There was already Scrabble, chess and checkers.

Auger says the games help encourage patrons to use the library as a gathering place.

“We thought the games would be a great addition to what we already offer.  So you come in with your library card and you’re able to borrow the games and use them in the library and then return them at the end.”

Auger tells My Timmins Now Dot Com that board games are a trend in a lot of libraries.

“I think it really falls into our mission of community and lifelong learning,” she comments. “Board games encourage social interaction, solving problems, improving number skills and just have a good time.”

In conjunction with the Timmins Board Game Group, the library is offering a weekly game night every Thursday at 5:30pm, starting next Thursday, August 1st.
