New Miss Teen Ontario North Canada crowned for 2019

A 19-year-old woman from Fauquier-Strickland won the title of Miss Teen Ontario North Canada, at a pageant last weekend in Cochrane.

It was Chanelle Larabie’s fifth pageant.  For her required speech, she addressed the LGBTQ community, because she’s a lesbian and wanted to talk about how your sexual orientation doesn’t change who you are.

“I am very involved in pageants and so the stereotype where all gay women are supposed to be tomboys and such things, I wanted to eliminate that stigma and help others that need to come out or that people need to understand,” she says.

Larabie wants to continue working on a stage.

“I’m currently enrolled in the George Brown Theatre Arts Performance Program in Toronto,” she explains. “ So I actually aspire to become an actress, anything really, theatre, television and such, but if that doesn’t work out, I would like to become a police officer.”

Also at the pageant, she and the other contestants competed on a scholastic test about Northern Ontario; an interview with judges; and a stage component.
