The fire is called “Timmins 2” and covers at least 2,500 hectares. One hectare is roughly the size of a football field. The flames are consuming trees just west of Gogama. Flames were first detected on Thursday night. Mostly because of smoke reducing visibility, Highway 144 has been frequently closed all weekend. If you have to get to Sudbury, you might be better off going via Highways 11 and 17.
