Crime of the Week: Lock your car

Reported by Brenda Beaven, Coordinator, Cochrane District Crime Stoppers Board

The Timmins Police Service needs your help in solving a rash of thefts from vehicles in and around the Timmins area.

Timmins Police and the OPP are all about protecting members of our communities  and the things that matter most—like your vehicle, belongings, and personal information. Trouble is, auto theft and theft from vehicles are a big problem in Timmins, and it’s getting worse. That’s why we’re reminding vehicle owners to Lock It or Lose It.

Recently these thieves have been going into vehicles in Schumacher, the south end of Timmins and Mount joy areas. However, there is no area in Timmins that is immune to these nefarious activities.  But you can help prevent it from happening to you. Here are some tips that you can use to keep thieves from going into your vehicle.

First and foremost if you are leaving your vehicle unattended for any reason, LOCK IT!!!

Take the keys with you and guard the automatic key fobs.

Ensure any valuables are not left in the vehicle like cell phones,  electronic devices,  purses and wallets.

If you need to leave these items in the vehicle put them out of sight.

Together we can prevent  theft from vehicles.

If you see this occurring, call police. If you have information about people that have stolen from vehicles call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, use the internet at www.P3tips.com or you can download the P3 app.

Your information could earn you up to $2,000 in cash.  You will remain anonymous and will not have to testify in court.

See something, hear something, do something.  Call Crime Stoppers.
