People living along Minisinakwa Lake or in low-lying areas of Gogama are being told to keep an eye on water levels this long weekend.

The MNRF has extended the flood watch for that area until next Friday.

Technical specialist Derek Farrer says it’s due to continuing high water levels.

“We’re also looking at the weather forecast and see that there is some precipitation amounts to occur over the next few days, plus the snow pack is still continuing to melt.”

Minisinakwa Lake surrounds Gogama on three sides.

“There is still some existing snow pack,” Farrer adds. “It’s definitely dropped significantly but it will still contribute to some of the waterways.”
