East Side Mario’s on Riverside Drive has been severely damaged by fire.

Deputy Timmins fire chief Ellard Beaven tells My Timmins Now Dot Com that the alarm was turned in at about 5:00am, by public works employees on street sweeping duty, when they noticed the smoke.

The fire started in the kitchen and was quickly extinguished.  Because the damage tops $500,000, Beaven says, the Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in.  But Beaven stresses that there is no reason to believe the blaze is suspicious.

More details to come later this morning right here,  and on Moose FM News at noon, four and five o’clock.
