Trail clean-up around Porcupine Lake set for May 25

A clean-up of trails around Porcupine Lake is planned for Saturday, May 25th… by Friends of the Porcupine River Watershed.

Group president Brenda Torresan is hoping for at least as many volunteers who showed up last year, when more than 150 helped out.

She says the trails are ready, except the one by the double pumping station.

“We’re hoping that the water all recedes there, so that we can actually go through there, too,” she comments.  “We do the trail all around the lake, including the Back Road and into the trails that go right to the old train station.”

The volunteers last year also cleaned along Evans and Crawford, all the way to Northern College.

Torresan asks you to pre-register online here, and to bring a reusable water bottle.

“The group itself is environmentally conscious of everything,” she explains. “If people have their own water bottles, we’re going to have containers of water that they can fill their bottles with.  That way we don’t have to recycle or use garbage for plastic and the tops of the bottles.”

The day begins at 9:30am and wraps up with a barbecue at noon.
