Spending to go up in 2015

Numbers are starting to be released for the 2015 budget. City officials presented a 2.3% increase for this year over last. That includes winter maintenance, raises for city staff, and non-union members. Chief Administrative Officer Joe Torlone says proposed service cuts would offset those costs. The spending for this year is around 1.3-million dollars more than last year.

Among those proposed cuts are increasing the cost of tipping fees at the Deloro landfill. Tuesday’s budget meeting had City Treasurer Jim Howie and Torlone present the idea. The idea would have all users pay $5 at the dump, regardless of size. The reasoning behind it is to offset spending increases for this year. They also suggested bi-weekly garbage pick up, and cancelling the spring clean up. The options will be discussed in upcoming budget meetings.
