Gas price hits a high after a week-long roller coaster ride

Talk about a price increase.  Over the weekend, gasoline in Timmins cost $1.13 a litre.  Today at some stations, it’s topping $1.30.

Javed Iqbal is the dealer at the Petro-Canada at Algonquin and Mountjoy.  He watched it jump up and down, right after the carbon tax took effect April 1st.

“Last week, the carbon tax came and (it went to) 1.30,” Iqbal outlines. “Then the market hit in Timmins, (it went down) but the actual price did not go down.”

Iqbal says customers always gripe at him about the price, but it’s dictated to him, based on market forces. He never sets it.

“No no, it’s not my fault.  We follow the market, you know.”

When My Timmins Now Dot Com spoke to Iqbal at noon hour on Tuesday, the price had already changed twice that day.  Within minutes, it was up again, to 132.9.
