For almost 35 years, the Lord’s Kitchen has been serving supper, free of charge, once a week in Timmins.
Recently, it added breakfast. President Deanna Russell says it’s served every Friday between seven and 8:30.
“Nobody had been doing a breakfast yet and we’d always had it on our radar that if we could get staff and everything, we would do it,” she explains. “Everything lined up and we thought well, we’ll do it. We’ll do one, see how it goes and if we can continue, we’ll look at doing another day.”
Russell says the volunteers believe that breakfast is the most important part of the day, and their menu follows reflects that.
“For example, there’ll be pancakes, either bacon or sausages,” Russell outlines. ”There’s usually baked beans, scrambled eggs and toast. We have dry cereals, too and we have oatmeal if they like it.”
In each of its first eight weeks, the breakfast has attracted between 40 and 50 people.
